Looking good i liked Buzz on the PS2, i like the idea of downloadable user created questions rp can have a whole load on Heroes!!
Firstly, it's the next step in Sony's online community-led PS3 offerings, starting with its toe-dip in the form of My SingStar Online right up to forthcoming Home and Little Big Planet. While perhaps not quite as ambitious as those latter two titles, Buzz!'s big new draws include online face-offs, plus the option for endless expandability via downloadable Quiz Packs, plenty of which will be user-generated. The other big feature of Buzz! Quiz TV is, of course, the fact it comes with wireless controllers (plus USB dongle) and, if you've ever spent hours unravelling the PS2's earlier peripheral prior to a 'spontaneous' quiz match, you'll know how much of a Godsend that really is.
There's really not much to say about the new controllers that you probably can't figure out for yourself – they're less dangly but otherwise virtually identical to the PS2's original Buzz!, er, buzzers. On the plus side, that means you won't be tempted to strangle the competition during heated quiz-offs and, on the downside, you'll need a grand total of eight AA batteries to get things rolling. On the upside again though, that means they're slightly heavier this time, doubling as an excellent bludgeoning tool during heated matches.
While existing rounds have been tweaked enough to still feel fresh, Buzz! Quiz TV also incorporates the point-gambling High Stakes game in both four- and eight-player matches. Here, you're given a hint as to the next question's subject and asked to bet points based on your confidence in answering correctly. Much like Point Stealer, it can really swing fortunes and, with both rounds rubbing shoulders in four-player competitions, the tension really ratchets up in the second-half of a game. Elsewhere, online play introduces All That Apply, but we've yet to see that in action.
In fact, the whole game benefits from a visual upgrade with the development team managing to nail the look of tacky Saturday night TV quizdom perfectly – gaudy colours, epilepsy-inducing light rigs and over-the-top rotating sets are all present and correct. There's even a fully-rendered audience in the background - which visibly guffaws at your misfortune - and a plethora of ear-bleedingly appropriate muzak to complete the brash atmosphere.
Most importantly though, Buzz! Quiz TV still retains its social gaming charms, each game pitched at just the right length and difficulty to ensure only the paralytically drunk won't enjoy a quick bout of button-bushing. With 5000 questions on the disc too, there's plenty of reason to come back for more trash-talking, friend-wrecking escapades. It's also broad enough in scope to rope in your most game-shy comrades, particularly thanks to this version's extended category selection.
Of course, the true test of Buzz! Quiz TV's durability will be in its online mode, with a potentially infinite number of questions available from official and user-generated sources, alongside network play and the leaderboard system. Sadly, the game's network options are still something of a mystery in the build of Buzz! we've played. Rest assured though, we'll be walking you through question-customization and the rest of the game's online features soon. Expect more impressions shortly.
