Buzzing Sound

Recently I built a new PC.

I seem to have a rather annoying buzzing sound coming from somewhere inside in the case. It happens when the computer is underload, I've only heard it in games, say, when I'm on the loading screen for LOTRO it'll start buzzing, but when I'm in game, it won't be as loud. Some games don't do it at all.

I have looked around the internet but there's various opinions on what it could be. So I thought I'd ask here and see what people think.

I have not overclocked any of my parts. But I believe - possibly - that the GFX Card is pre-overclocked?

The PSU is 700w, surely that's enough for what I have?

It may be the GPU, mine makes a noise when playing certain games or folding, I have the 8800 GTX.

could be the GPU fan.

can't you just open the case while you do a futuremark test and see where its coming from

As you have only heard it during gaming I would think that it is the GPU.
Have you got any compressed air to clear any dust/debris away from the fan?

Definitely sounds like a fan ramping up when under load, try testing different fan speeds if you can to simulate it and that should prove if it's that or not.

Electrical noise under heavy loads tends to originate from the PSU in my experience.

You're right and I guess that it has to be considered.
Buzzing, humming, whirring - really need to hear the sound to have a better idea. The fact that it has only happened during gaming though is a strong indicator that the GPU is to blame (although I know the CPU, RAM etc are also often working overtime). Perhaps the OP can run Prime95 or some other stress tests to see if the noise appears when under different types of load (with the GPU idle) to try and identify the problem component?

I opened the case this morning to clear out the dust from the fans. Turned it on, fired up a game and stuck my head in there. It's the PSU. It's a fairly high pictched sound while underload - louder when games are loading, not so when playing.

What should I do? I don't have much exprience with computers, this is my first build. Is this a major problem? Will it be damaging its self?

Looks like I might be in for many hours with cable ties once again. RMA?

now that my pc is really quiet i hear a hi pitch sound coming from my graphic card when im playing a game but whatever i dont play anymore so no worries

It's definitely the PSU. I took it out of the case to double check and I also had another person listen to it while it was on.

So, hopefully, I can get it changed, but I have a question; I'd like to try another company for a PSU, how do Be Quiet! fair?

BeQuiet! are very good indeed, and very quiet too! Also consider Corsair, Coolermaster, Zalman and Seasonic - all good brands. None of them are exactly cheap but then that's the point about quality, seeing as they are not only providing stable voltage but some measure of protection too - you are far less likely to get damaged hardware due to a PSU going borked with a good brand than with a cheapo one.

Oops, just looked back at your OP and seen what it was... unlucky there I guess!
