Hi all. I moved into my new house about 2 months ago and had Blue Yonder installed as quickly as possible (4 meg plus a TV package). All was going well untill a few weeks ago when my speeds dropped to a now average 1.5 meg and It's now impossible for me to get an in-game (CS/TFC) ping of less that 80-120ms, whereas up untill a fortnight ago I was getting sub 20 pings on the same servers (also the same is happening if I ping jolt/google/co.uk from run>cmd).
We have just had 3-4 sets of people move into the flats above and below us (tis a big mansion type thing) so i'm wondering if they might have had BY activated and thus mine has slowed down?, or does BY not work that way (not really clued up on contention and things).

When I visit my modem i'm seeing these pretty things:

Unfortunately I have no idea what these errors are whatsoever lol. I'm wondering whether it's simply because my neighbours have now got connections going into the building or possibly it's my modem or something?. Just to clarify, my neighbours live at different adresses and have different connections etc, My connection goes straight from the modem into my onboard asus ethernet thing, previously trouble free :( .

Edit: Just got 2 meg down on adslguide speedtest. Highest in 2 weeks.

Cheers for reading.

Doesnt look too healthy :(

I'll get on to the tech department. I'd just like to be armed with something really because it's likely they'll try to fob me off and I havent got a clue what to say in return.

So would the addition of connections in the building effect the performance in my flat?. I didnt think that there was a contention on BY.

Beh great, i'm on the phone to an indian call centre, which wouldnt bother me in the slightest if: a) He could understand me, or b) the phone line werent a total abortion quality wise his end...

Shamtime imminent.

Well, he had me do a start>cmd>netstat -r.
For which (with no open programmes) I got these results:
netstatts2.jpg

I have no idea what that means really. But he fobebd me off none the less. Basically he said that there should be no more than 5 conenctions listed, and that this was the reason why my download speeds were slow :( . Somehow i'm not buying it.

Well, spoke to another tech, he did a check and apparently there is a fault locally. So all is (or might be) well :).

avalon get a grip, the tech across the road is a good neighbour, was merely pointing out why I was recieving poor service, but hey you know best

Hehehehehe :p .

I'll give it a few days and call back/monitor my connection. If the problem isnt solved (be it an excuse or a geniune problem at the local exchange thingy) then i'll kick up a fuss and get a tech dude out.

As for my modem output being low, would that be modem fault of could that too be part of a problem locally?.

So you suggest he knock on a tech's door at lunch time on a Sunday to ask him to have a look at his slow modem problem (not no functinal telephone with a sick relative and no mobile - just he can't game as quick as he'd like) unpaid etc ? Why not ask him to rewire your cable feed while you're at it if he's not got anything planned ?

Tech's by and large are very helpful but I think you may be pushing this a little here!

And techs will do as they're told.. useless bunch :p ;) :D :D

Power Levels are correct.
SNR and frequency are all correct.

Bluyonder have 2 frequencies you can lock onto, they are:
331000000 or 339000000.
maybe the latter may help.

Pings withen the bluyonder scope are 30ms or less.
pings outside the blueyonder scope we cant control, such as game servers in usa or japan ect.

annoying as this advice is just make sure there is no spyware ect on your pc.
reset all your browser settings to default.
look through your firewall just incase you see something odd.

PS. it's not in the tech supports interest to fob you off. if they cant help ask them to put you through to second line.
If you are behind a router they dont support 3rd party routers and you will be asked to disconnect it.
there is also a PC helpline unique to blueyonder (0906 911 0001) but its £1 a minute. sounds a lot but if they fix your problem then its an investment right?
Also they calim to solve most issues in 6 minutes or less.

Right dude, thankyou for the reply :). I've checked and re-checked all outgoing connections/spy/aware and so on. This was primarily a video/music editing machine. So short of steam theres nothing other than pro software on here. I'll give it a week and see if it picks up. If it doesnt i'll get through to second line support and have a techie out. The only problem is I have a feeling that it wont be getting any quicker, I've found that it's quicker (nearly 3 meg) in the early mornings or late at night... If the local problem were infact real surely the bandwidth would vary randomly. Still, we'll have to wait and see.

I disagree that his stats are what they should be, idealy they should be +8 on the downstream or at least +5 mine was -16 and was the faulty cable splitters and a issue at the box at back of garden, this took it to +7 so get a tech out in a few days, o and yeh get put through to second line.

Which readings are you refering to by the way dude? (I know, total noob). Is it per chance the:
Downstream: 0.95 dBmV
Upstream: 44.00 dBmV
?

What do these actually mean? (learn something new every day and so on :P:)

DAvE18 said:
downstream power level m8, not that am saying the manual is wrong but obviously would rather trust one of the head techs here :p

its mesnt to be +8 but anything over 5 is fine, anything else and I would call them, your upstream is fine, if your still getting poor pings change the channel id to 1

How might I change the channel ID dude? :P.

Power levels and frequency do change by area, what's right in one area is so far wrong it's not even funny in another, it varies a lot as do the chan's you BBI will operate on per region, try changeing them by all means but you need it to match your profile so call tech support who will go through it.

Dave no disrespect but in this case I may actually know better, you state you know one tech who's a good neighbour, that's your call but suggesting others do the same just because someone has a TW van parked outside isn't a good plan, the number of tech's I know who out of choice wouldn't take a van home or come in on a monday to pick up kit and bitch about some idiot doing exactly what you are suggesting just because they know where they work is annoying. Not to mention that 'special breed' of idiots who when someone is nice enough to do them a favour phone up and moan because it didn't resolve the problem or they want it looking at by the same guy again.

So what do you suggest I can actually do dude?. Just wait for the apparent local fault to be sorted out?.
