Swansway Motor Group are pleased to welcome the Chinese EV manufacturer BYD to their family with the opening of stores in Chester and Crewe. We are hosting two launch events in our new stores and you’re invited. BYD Crewe Launch Event takes place on Thursday 22nd August 2pm until 7pm. BYD Chester Launch Event takes place on Saturday 24th August 10am – 3pm.

On offer will be free food and drink, fun fair stalls including prizes up for grabs, ice cream, face painters, the full BYD model range on display with the ability to chat with our BYD team and take a car for a test drive, and a SIM racing simulator provided by Overclockers UK.

Amongst the free activities and food on offer, you have a unique opportunity to see BYD’s sister brand YangWang display its impressive U8 and U9 models. If you paid attention to this year’s Goodwood festival of Speed, you’ll recognise these two models that drew in quite a crowd, particularly for their unique party tricks. This is an opportunity not to be missed by cars fans!

The U8 is a 3-tonne electrified SUV monster with a whopping 1,180 BHP. The modest 49kWh battery is combined with a powerful 268bhp 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine that acts as a range extender.

On the outside, there’s an instant familiarity to this masterfully engineered tank. With hints of the iconic Land Rover Defender and the luxurious Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the U8 makes a bold statement from all angles. Measuring 5.2 metres in length and over 2m in width, it commands attention, and you may even wonder how on earth it would fit down some of our narrow UK roads, or especially how it would fit into some of our public parking spaces.

Being an off-road vehicle, the U8 is capable of wading through water depths of up to roughly 4.5 feet (1400mm) dependent on the trim level. It can also float on water! Although boat mode is only intended for use in an emergency. When “floating” on water the U8 will shut down all engines, close all windows, open the sunroof as an emergency escape and switch the air con to recirculate.

However, some may say the most impressive thing about the U8 is it’s TikTok pleasing party trick, the “Tank Turn”. Thank to its four electric motors each propelling a single wheel, the U8 can perform a 360 on the spot. Excellent for negotiating tight spots or tough terrain, not so great for those tyres!

Meanwhile the U9 is an electric supercar and sits proudly as one of the worlds fastest EVs sitting behind the Aspark Owl and the Rimac Nevara.

Like the U8, the U9 has four electric motors made by BYD. Each motor has a power output of up to 240 kW (317bhp), and the combined power can reach 960 kW (1,269bhp). This enable the U9 to reach 0-62mph in just 2.36 seconds.

You won’t be able to see this acceleration in action at our BYD stores, but you will be able to see the U9 display its dance moves. Thanks to its DiSus-X suspension, the U9 can lift each axle with a speed of 500 mm/s combined with the 36 kW of power provided by the 800V platform. This gives the supercar its entrancing dance moves that we’ve all seen across the internet over the last few weeks.

Along with these impressive dance moves enabled by the DiSus-X chassis, it also allows for the U9 to take faster corners, brake without nodding, and start without raising the front end.

With no expected UK release date for either of these models, this is a great opportunity to see the models up close and personal and witness their internet sensation moves for yourself.

We look forward to seeing you at BYD Crewe or BYD Chester!
