You'll be sorely missed :(

Today I sold him, after four years of hassle free fun, top-down pleasure and hoonage, to a nice guy from Bath.

It's always painful watching someone else drive off with your pride and joy, isn't it?

So it's back to one car for me now and the money shall be saved. I may well be back to two cars in the future though, who knows!

I couldn't bare to see my MX-5 Berkeley being driven off, hate the thought of selling. This is going to sound very sad but I'd have to get a family member to complete the sale so I didn't have to see it being driven off.

I tried, boy did I try to sell it to someone I know, but nope. The guy who bought it was a very decent gent to be fair, so I know it's going to a good home.

I got £2,600 for it in the end.

Sounds familiar. I'm giving my old trusty golf to my lil brother

Gutting feeling. It's only ever easy if the car has given you trouble or if it's replacement is significantly better.

Still, its money saved for something else in the future

Sorry to hear you got rid of it! Was it mainly a financial decision? Did you not use it that much compared to your st220?

I'm beginning to consider a replacement car as my mx-5 was only supposed to be a stop gap for a year or two but I've had it nearly 4 years now! I've considered all the obvious candidates such as an S2000 or Z4 etc but to be honest I don't think they will offer me that much more in terms of fun (performance yes) over my current mx5, plus ideally I need more room.

So I am considering something like an ST220 or Octy VRS and putting the 5 in the garage for the occasional sunny day. I don't think I would get that much for it on the second hand market, the only costs I'd really save would be maintenance (minimal anyway) tax, insurance (would change to a limited mileage policy) and fuel. I just don't want to get a replacement car and then have to flog the mx-5 because it's not being used as much. I probably won't do anything until after the summer realistically though.

I think that's a fair price for the car, saw it on a few threads on MX5Nutz and it always looked very well looked after.

Yeah it was partly financial, partly 'cos it didn't get used a great deal, I thought it better to send it off to a good home before I just get sick of it and want / need to spend more on it etc etc.. The buyer is happy, I'm happy that I got around the amount I wanted (I assumed it was worth between 2.5 and 3k so wasn't far wrong!) but it's strange it not being on the drive :(

More hookers and drugs for Howard, I know hard hard those habbits are to finance.

You made the right choice :)

Sad times. I hope mines gonna be going soon although I'm not holding out for much given the tatty state its in :( It's an awesome car but it's quickly showing its age and I'm loathed to spend any more money on it just to see it go shortly after.

I really need a more practical car given that I have a partner with a 7 year old son and I have a 7 year old Labrador too. I can't make 3 trips everywhere! I keep looking around at alsorts trying to avoid compromise but my budget is weak, then I spotted that ST220s are getting towards more my budget (~£3k). Just had a look at your ST220 thread and it really ticks all the boxes apart from being FWD.

Will miss the get in blast ability of the MX-5, I can't take a roundabout sensibly at all. In fact I can't drive it sensibly at all. As soon as I see the white and black NSL sign the car gets put through its paces every time and always keeps me smiling. In an ideal world I'd have a family car and an MX-5 on a trailer ready for track days. An idea me and my partner find quite appealing and is definitely on the list for the future.

Hope you don't miss it too much. I think I've come to terms with losing mine already.

I still love driving my Mondeo. Sure it's not as chuckable as the MX5 and you can't (easily) oversteer round roundabouts but it's got plenty of grunt and has a little bit of hooligan inside it that comes alive when you give it some stick. I too love those round white signs with the diagonal black line

This was the case for me when I advertised it. It's not a decision I've made lightly but I made it and things move on. It was a brilliant car, that really ticked all the boxes. I had loads of fun in it.

So Howard did you get the choice between keeping either the MX-5 or the ST220, or do you require the extra space that made the decision for you?

If not the latter then would you still have kept the ST220? Why?
