Bypassing HDCP 2.2

Hi everyone, hope you've had a good Crimbo! :)

I bought my dad an amazon fire TV for Christmas to go with his 4k monitor (BenQ 3201pt), which was listed as HDCP compliant on the manufacturer page. I should have checked further, because it seems that this is in fact only compliant to HDCP 1.4 (admittedly this was not really an area I was well researched on until now, and definitely not in the documentation which simply says HDCP - "Yes"). Thus the fire TV is currently a bit pointless as it is stuck playing at 1080p which he could do before anyway.

Upon looking around, a lot of solutions seem quite expensive and/or not really sold here in the UK. I was wondering what converters etc everyone uses in their setups to allow HDCP 2.2 content to play on a 1.4 device? I've seen one by Neet going for about £70 which I will get for him all else fails, but would like to save a bit more money if possible (especially as the fire TV was about that price..). Cheers in advance!

I thought so too, but at least directly messaged Neet about one of theirs and they claimed theirs didn't (although I remain unsure that they aren't just trying to push their double price product...). However, any sort of splitter or converter would be fine if it was known to deal with the hdcp, I'm just trying to find one sold in the UK (ideally without spending so much) - if no luck I'll just fork out the £70 and end the problem for sure.

If you go onto a well known auction site and search for:

4 WAY HD hub 1080p 1 x 4 HDMI 3D Splitter Amplifier Bypasses HDCP

You'll find the splitters I use. I have two of these, one for my fire tv and and for Sky HD. Have had no issues with HDCP on either.

Only 1080p though? Op wants 4k doesn't he, hence needing it to bypass HDCP 2.2?

Yeah that's the case unfortunately, which has far less information out there about what does and doesn't work. I've also seen the Triax 310054 for £50 which I guess will do the same job as the Neet for a bit less, so unless someone knows of any splitters that will do the job at 4k I guess that's the best bet?

Google HDCP 2.2 to 1.4 converter and you will find what you are looking for, they sell them on Amazon amongst other places. I have no experience using a converter directly but know people who do use one, they do work with the Fire TV gen 2 and apparently Sky Q as well, they do not, however, work with the PS4 Pro as it appears they are not full bandwidth and can only do YUV420.

So will they do 4K like the OP requested?

I think russ9898's post above aptly demonstrates that my challenge wasnt entirely unreasonable. No need to get weepy.

Regardless, I know that they work. I was asking not about this, but if anyone knew of a device that would do it for less than £70 in the Neet case on the website mentioned earlier or less than £50 for the Triax that I've seen elsewhere (or if the £20 premium would be worth it for some reason as reviews basically don't exist). In the US there are numerous devices for around $30 so figured that I might be missing something. Seems fairly clear so far that nothing will beat the £50, which is a shame as the actual device wasn't significantly more, but hey :).

Perhaps if you read the post and chose not to ignore the information in it confirming that they do work rather than being a self appointed oberforum fuhrer you wouldn't come across as being "unreasonable".

The oddest thing is for a while they were far more expensive in the states than they were here but in the last month or so that has switched.

I do think they are just a temporary fix though as not being able to do 4K60 in anything other than YUV420 limits there usefulness to people who want to hook up PS4 Pros, Xbox One S and UHD HDR Bluray players to older non HDCP2.2 AV sets and TVs.

You can bypass HDCP 2.2 with a device like a HD Fury intergral, but they are fairly expensive. It does work with UHD BD's too, the encrpytion on the disc is irrelevant as it circumvent's the HDMI DRM not the disc's DRM.

Yeah it can capture in transit data, but I don't think they can get the HDR data.

It works

Hi, I am Minarvas dad, for those that are interested I bought the Triax THC 22 (310054) to use with the Amazon Fire TV box to play 4k content (Netflix etc.) on my Benq monitor, works great

Best place to buy this from? My AVR is 4K compliant however it is not HDCP 2.2 compliant.

So I'm forced to feed it 1080P when I have a 4K source and TV.

However at £70. I could just sell my AVR stick the £70 on top and get a newer AVR which I will need at some point I imagine anyway. Sure I'll need to add a bit more on top but at least I'm sorted for a long while

Hi I am new to this forum but I have the same problem as you guys I was just wondering if the Triax box still works or have they made a patch? Just would like to know before I place a order? Any help would be great ☺️
