Hi.
Ive started playing with C&C Generals a lot lately, no Zero hour, just normal generals.
The problem im having is that every few seconds or so the game will stutter, then go back to normal, then a few seconds later stutter again, and so on.
Ive no idea why its doing this, its not a graphical issue as in the seconds that its running normally, everything is silky smooth. Plus, the problem happens even when nothing is happening graphically.

Ive only noticed it when im playing against 2 brutal armies, and the problem seems to go away when one of the armies is destroyed, and the other all but gone. So that to me points to prehaps an AI issue.

Anyway, i cant find any info on the issue with many google searches. So does anyone know of a fix?

Running the latest patch bty.

Thanks in advance all.

Sounds kind of like a dual core problem?
Thats what i thought.
But setting the affinity to '0' doesnt seem to help at all. Or setting it to '1' (both being set by alt-tabbing out then opening task manager).
And the AMD dualcore thing that sorts out timings seems to be working fine as well.

Im hoping, although its a slim chance, that Zero hour will fix it. Im getting Zero hour in the next few days so hopefully that'll fix it. Although probably not. :(

I had this, it's a bug with the game.

When there is a LOT of units on the map, the game slows to a crawl, and stutters. There's no way to solve it, I pestered EA and got told it was my specs (3400+, 1GB RAM, 7800GS) and despite me telling them it wasn't they would not listen.

Nothing to do with dual core mate, it's the side effects of a rushed game :)

Shame that.
I cant remember, but does the problem happen with Zero Hour as well?

Its also strange that it doesnt happen in SP mode though.

I do remember, when I played Generals a lot... when I attempted to Alt Tab out, it would for some reason do the whole shudder thing that was described, try re-installing it maybe?

yeah you could have a super computer running generals and it would still do that, its poor coding and rushed out, like most ea stuff. No way to fix it except uninstalling and playing company of heroes instead :p

Not sure if Zero Hour does it too, only seen the problem on Generals when me and a friend used to get it while doing a co-op skirmish against a couple of very hard computer opponents.

LOL, you actually managing to team up with your mate seems like a miracle to me.
Me and a freind who only lives a couple of miles from me tried over a hundred times on many different accasions and different settings to team up online and play against the AI but it would just never happen.
At the same time we could always join a game in the lobby but never start one of our own.

Generals and ZH are pretty much the worst games for online play EVER. If just one person has a router that's it, you have instantly lost a week of your life trying to sort it.

Two friends and I all have routers, all got ZH again recently so thought wed play online... it took ME a week of hunting around websites looking for just about anything that can be done. It's sorted now for LAN games [using Hamachi].

As for Generals, I used to recall stuttering, but I just put it down to too much going on. You don't generally see it on the SP missions because there aren't that many units, and generally only one AI enemy.

It's gradually got worse. This was back in the days of the first patches, when the online play was acceptable. Normally we could get through a game without an "out of sync" error.

Not possible these days though! :p
