I've just been rooting about in all my old games and came upon C&C: Generals + Zero Hour (Deluxe Edition). Funny thing is, I can't remember buying it let alone playing it, so my question is this. Is this game any good and worth installing or is it tripe and should just be thrown back into the box?

Bear in mind I used to love playing the older C&C games, and still have Tiberian Sun installed on this PC.

Its an alrite game, but it shouldn't be called Command and Conquer, not due to being poor, but due to being a completely different style of RTS, In terms of building a base it is more like Dawn Of War. It doesn't fit into the C&C universe either.

Enjoyed playing it back when it came out though, nowhere near as enjoyable as Red Alert 1 and 2 though.

Oh well, I may as well install it and see how it is. I'm glad to see that after a bit of reading around there's a widescreen fix for it,

I totally disagree with those who say its not that good a game. I have been playing it with some mates now for over 3 years and we still play regular. It is very diverse, loads you can learn over weeks and months of playing it keeping it interesting and great as a strategy game.

Install Zh and you can play with me and my mate over the net, we'l show you the way :)

Sadly for Generals, it's been cursed by the C&C name and people will criticize it regardless.

The game itself was huge amounts of fun but suffers from loads of exploits, balance issues and poor netcode. This is especially true of the expansion pack, Zero Hour; vanilla generals is less prone to balancing issues and exploits.

That said, if you can get some friends together and play it can be loads of fun. The gameplay is just as intense and requires just as much skill as the old C&C games. Anyone who says any different is just suffering from a severe case of nostalgia.

Mmmmmm the Laser General....

Anyway, Generals+ZH is good and lots of fun, but I also think Tiberian Sun is the best C+C game; so, my opinion is generally different to everyone elses. :p

Theres nothing wrong with it, it was a great RTS game, just because it was set in a modern day middle east style setting and not futurstic and stuff people dont like it.

Agreed

It was a decent game, the problem people have with it is that EA sold it under the C&C name probably to try and sell more copies when it has no relation to the C&C universe at all which is why a lot of hardcore C&C fans were so annoyed when they discovered it wasn't a C&C game.

C&C Renegade is also an underrated game, it was the last C&C game made by Westwood before EA stepped in and took control. The multiplayer is by far the best part of that game, the multiplayer was never really finished because EA has absorbed Westwood Studios by the time the game was out in the wild so official patches were very limited. Luckily there has been a lot of server mods to try and make the multiplayer more complete.

I used to play ra2 + yuris hardcore years ago, was into all the rankings, was even part of the strike-team if anyone knows it lol

anyway when generals came out i bought it on the day...only to come home to discover what a pile of poo it is

a few months ago though i bought the last decade cos i couldnt find my old ra2 cd's, so did a few friends, and we have actually been playing Generals quite a bit, its good playing with friends online

the actual game is still no match for ra2 though, in terms of balance etc

i have c&c 3 lying around somewhere but ive never got round to installing it yet!
