hey i bough RA2 off ebay and everyting looks authentic but whent he auto run menu comes up and i click install it says "insert correct disk". now ive tried both discs and i get the same error with both, could it be something to do with vista or have i just been sold a ripped copy?

Have you installed the latest patch, set the compatability mode and are running it with admin rights? I know for certain that the version included in The First Decade compilation works fine under vista as I was running it, I was also able to run it at 1200x1920 resolution without problems.

the games latest patch and which compatability?
because i cannot actually install the game from either disc :(

and i have tried running the setup file from the cd directory with admin rights and under xp and 98/me mode.. but still the same

That's an odd one!

Perhaps try it in xp, then run it from Vista, what I did, had RA2 already in Xp and just ran fine in Vista.

I thought you were having problems running it, didn't realise you couldn't get it installed. Is the disc scratched in anyway? You shouldn't have problems installing it under Vista, the installer should run without any issues, it's the game that normally has problems running.

The best way to play all of the C&C games under Vista is The First Decade, it contains patches for all of the game and in most cases runs without issue on Vista.

It's a box set of all the C&C games between 1996 and 2006 (which is all of them except C&C3). It has a single installer though (all the games are on 1 DVD) and was designed to be XP compatible so people have less issues running it under Vista not to mention it saves you the trouble of having to swap discs. You can pick it up for under £15 in a lot of places, I have had much better luck with it than the seperate games.

ok right well after that failed attempt of RA2 im now trying to install the origional RA1 on my pc (vista x64) and it says its not designed and to check whether it need x86 or x64 system, tried running as admin and under xp,98/me and 95 compatability but always the same..... is there a way to make it work or do i yet again have to buy the first decade box set?

I think there is a patch to run Redalert under XP which may work. Remember that Redalert was a DOS game and had a Windows 95 executable so it would be lucky if it worked out of the box.

Try this: http://www.dice.nl/Trouble/trouble_C&CRA.htm

(The First Decade includes this patch but is the same version of the game that you have)

hey i just had a look at that site but i cant actually install it :( i click the setup file and it returns....

"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

.... :( sucks any way to make this program run in 32 bit mode or something?

Are you sure you've set the executable to Windows 95 compatability mode and are running the correct file, I think there may be a 16-bit DOS executable on the disc which you won't be able to run.

humm where abouts would that be because ive been setting the 95 installer ones to win 95
one everything i try it always says check whether its 32 or 64 bit.... so i think it wont run on 64 at all.

Edit:
just tried contacting EA about it from the website but when ever i try to send the help request it always comes up with an internal server error..... great :p
