I think tiberian sun used IPX for gameplay over a LAN, if you are running XP you will need to install IPX protocol as its not installed by default, there are probably a few guides to help you out on the internet. As for internet gaming probably not much you can do if you have different CD keys you might be able to play on different servers.

you need to set some settings in each comp's ipx properties. i think (cant remember totally but...) yo need to go to the ipx properties, set the network number and internal network number both to 11111111 on the first pc, and then 22222222 on the second pc (basically any 8 digit number) and set the frame type to ethernet II (maybe ethernet snap).

once you've done that you need to go into tiberian sun and go to the options, network properties, then select the network card out the list that has the 11111111 or 22222222 in it (think it should be displayed 11111111:xx xx xx xx where the x's is the mac address of the card)

your comp may require a restart before you do the above bit in tib sun for it to find the network number.

ive done it this way (or at least very close) on both tib sun and RA2, and i think my explanation is more aimed at RA2, but i think it was pretty similar for both. the only difference really would be IF the options ive described are even in tib sun, but i think they are (cant check as i havnt got it installed)
