m on my C drive for windowhi all. i have an ongoing issue that is puzzling me. my PC starts crashing and i get error messages saying i have to make windows updates., i make room and everything works fine for a while, then it does it again. i did have 12Gb of free space but it just dissappears and i have no idea why. when i look at the totals they don't seem to add up. its as if there is something 'invisible' that i can't see., any ideas ?

i have images to show you but i don't know how to post them in here.

Do a disk cleanup on the drive, but once the first window loads, click System Files at the bottom to also scan “junk” data. You might find some old upgrade or patch data that can be cleaned out.

What is your OS? Windows 7, 8 or 10? The spec in your signature is quite old, so it could be Windows 7 if your signature is current and correct.

As above, use something like WinDirStat, TreeSize or Folder Size to find out which folders and programs are hogging your drive.

If you have a small drive, you might be just seeing the space being reduced by monthly Windows Updates. Run Disk Cleanup to free up this space again.

Use WizTree instead of WinDirStat for checking space consumption, same but works faster.

You might want to consider relocating your user file folders if space is tight on the C drive, docs, pics, downloads (or whichever one(s) you find eating space the most), it's been supported in Windows for quite some time and is pretty straight-forward.

You could also clear any restore points, that normally gets a few GB back. My C: drive was a 256GB and I had to clears stuff, got sick of it so imaged the drive to a 512 drive.
