C# - urgent crash course needed

The only things that it has in common with C++ are the syntax and the ability to access memory directly via pointers, though this is discouraged and generally unnecessary.

Well the consensus is that it doesn't 'read like that', and that's the only thing that actually matters in this argument, since strictly speaking no one is right or wrong.
