Hey Guys

As title really, just spent some time re-doing my C.V to bring it up to scratch as it was a bit out of date but I'm wondering if it should be written in first or third person?

Google appears to just be a mess of people suggesting both ways is the correct way with a handful of people who suggest just listing statements rather than sentences?

I'm in two minds about it.....Third person seems more professional but at the same time looks like someone else has written my C.V while first person just feels a bit too wordy (maybe that's just the way I'm writing it lol)

Any opinions on this?

The way I did it is to write the personal statement as a kind of list. e.g A hard working individual, flexible, adaptable and eager to learn etc.

Then qualifications/experience as a list.

Hobbies and interested in the first person, and subtly stating that your interests tie with the workplace. e.g for music, I put that it helps work with a team but also solo etc.

Hope this helps, happy job hunting!!

Quite a number of people in here will advise you to write it in third person.

These people need to be poked with a pointy stick.

lol that's it, third person didn't quite seem right to me simply because it's my C.V that I'm writing about myself!

OK, so the next question is:

Should the first person be written as "I was responsible for blah whilst I blah" or "responsible for blah whilst blah" as an example a bit like Kaffe suggested?

I was made redundant about 5 years ago, as part of the redundancy package I was offered a "professional C.V. writing service" He advised to write in third person so I did and still do.

First person in the profile (if you have one). Then just put statements in the rest of it.

Lol at writing it in the third person.

Third person? Dear god.

I don't think I would ever call someone in for an interview if they did that.

*shrug*

Got me an interview for every job I applied for at the time and since.

Works for a lot if my friends and co-workers too.

misinformation it would seem. Have a quick Google and just see how many websites that offer advice on C.V's suggest to use third person

Maybe it's a big conspiracy? :x

First, but make statement's to explain skills and roles/duties.

I really don't know why you would write in the third person.

As already mentioned I did X I did Y. You wouldn't say Adsta did X, Adsta did Y.
