looking for a rough value for this engine...I know they get used in grasstrack cars and prob other amateur motorsport too.

It was originally on a 91 Cavalier GSi, now in my old Astra GTE 8v which has been sitting in a field for almost 10 years so it’s time for the scrappies :(

Just hoping the engine might still have some value

Edit...never though about checking eBay! Anyway, still interested on any thoughts!

Does the engine run? How long has it been sat in the field?

If the answer is “no and years” then I wouldn’t expect much tbh.

Fairly sure it’ll start...I’d just had it with rusty Vauxhall’s!, but had the vague notion of restoring some day
think it would be worth more leaving it in the car?
Dunno if having to take a full car would be an inconvenience or a good thing for most people?

i would sell the whole car and engine. many people will be interested as long as its okay. its surprising what people will or can repair.

These were great engines back in the day, only mastered by the C20LET and Z20LEY. They went in everything from Nova's through to Caterhams, etc, and almost plug'n'play across the whole Vauxhall range. Clean it up, make sure it works and can be tested and this will probably fly, in the right places.

how bads the car and where are you located? i really dont have enough rotten vauxhalls in my life already ;)

can't remember exactly but the reason it was put off the road was the steering rack/pedal mount/bulkead was rotten, pedals moving escessively when steering....so would have needed fully stripped out to repair....I'm near Edinburgh!

just thinking of all the work put in to it tho, and the fact I've owned it for +20 years....I think I'm going to have to fond another space for it now, so it can sit for another 10 years before it needs moved again!

The cylinder head casting is worth something, especially if it's the more desirable "Coscast" casting made by Cosworth. Maybe the block and crank too. Of course it also has scrap metal value...

These engines are still very desirable, in a number of markets - kit car, fast road, rally, Vauxhall/Opel scene, Ford scene etc etc.

Oil change, coolant change, battery on and see if it starts. If it does, and runs okay, you should get £300-£500 for it.

This will not end well :D

we dont fear rust, we embrace it :)

ive got a basket case of a saab 9-5 to put right then i need a new project :))) . builder22 send me a pm please always interested in a mk2 gte

theres many people who would buy it no problem. its just a case of how the engine is or even the car. just dont scrap it until someone who knows what they talking about sees it. also be prepared for the oohh...thats really bad im not sure im interested its night on scrap even if okay but i will buy it for low ball price.

I have a complete XE engine and I have had tons of offers for it but it’s going nowhere. Plenty of interest in these engines still especially if it’s salvageable.

HI,

Is the red top still for sale, I am guessing not!
