Hi

I've currently got a C2D 2.4 Conroe, which I've happily had OC'd to 3.0 and 3.2 for several months.

I'm now toying with upgrading it, but am not sure if I'll see any performance benefit unless I lay out more cash than I have (<£200) - please advise?

The machine runs Vista64 and I use it for office, web dev and plenty of gaming.

Thanks!

Well I guess that would be a waste of money if you have it running at 3.0 / 3.2Ghz. You won't see much improvements if you ask me. Think it's best to save up the cash and upgrade later. Let's see what others have to say! :)

I agree, I've got a C2D @ 3.3Ghz. Sure you can upgrade to a Wolfdale and clock it to 3.6 or even 4Ghz, but what difference will you see? None, looking at your specs right now.

I went from a E6400 @ 3.6 to a wolfie @ 4.2 gig. Yep its faster, but it isnt blow your socks of faster !. Super pi times are impressive, but in day to day running, nowt to shout about. I would wait and see how the new quads fair tbh.

Yeah I have had an e6300 @ 3.2, e6400 @ 3.4, e6600 @ 3.6, Q6600 @ 3.5, Q6600 @ 3.8....and now I'm back to an e6300 @ 3.3ghz and it does everything I want it to very well. The ONLY thing I have noticed a difference in is UT3 as that seems to really do well with a quad core. That and 3dmark06 scores really....

my point...keep the e6600 unless you like benchmarking or video encoding
