Sorry but I've been in AMD land so long that I'm out of touch with Intel motherboards. I see the 965 and 975 chipsets seem to be for C2D. But can anyone give a quick summary on what the difference is. Dn which chipset would be best for an E6300 or E6600? Thanks.

Look at the new 650i chipset.

500 FSB for around 70 quid.

SLI too! :)

Offers similar perfromance to the 680i mobos costing 200 quid!

Ah now that sounds good. I'll go look. Thanks.

Nvidia whats the difference between the 975x and the 965p chipset when using a E6600?

I know about the FSB but that wouldent be a disadvantage if your using the E6600 it would just mean you would have more headroom when overclocking

The 965P is great, Allows for some big overclocks on my 6600. The DS3/DS4 is good because there's loads of information about them on this forum

Was in the same position as you.Reading about the 965 and 975 chipset differences will make your head spin. Basically the 975 is a better performer at same clock speed than the 965, but the 965 hits higher fsb speeds so when all said and done there isnt much difference. You will be happy with either. My advice is e6300 go for 965 and e6600 either will do. I eventually chose 965 due its higher reliability, its a newer chipset and was designed especially for the C2D. Hope that helps

the 975/965 deal with overclocking is mainly that the 965s are much more reliable with reaching the higher FSB speeds that the lower multiplier locked E6400 and E6300 are capable of.

A good 975 will max out 350-400Mhz, some lower, some higher, whereas 965s have been seen up at and around the 500Mhz range. 975X is a good chipset though, and if you want to Crossfire, then it is the next best thing to RD600, as it runs 8x/8x rather than the odd 16x/4x that the 965 runs.
