c2d: dropping the multiplier for a higher o/c?

i'm trying to hit 3ghz on my e4300, i seem to have hit a temporary limit at 300x9, however i've noticed in my p5b's bios i can lower the multiplier to 8.

is there a performance difference/downside going from 334x9 (ignoring the fact i cant hit that) to in theory using 375x8?

or FSB voltage, you may be hitting a celing on what your mobo can do at the voltages you are suppling.

what settings are you using overall, easier to give advice if we know what you are doing!
