Whats going on? Using the stock intel cooler this Asus P5B Deluxe reports its idling at 41C in the bios. Windows etc isnt installed yet but once it is I will check with coretemp and see whats going on. Anyone know where the bios gets its data from? Die or temp sensor somewhere?

I am just shocked because a E6600 machine I built last week was idling at 28C (DQ6 mobo).

To be honest I think asus probe gives out inaccurate temps. My E6400 was at 40 degrees idle on the stock cooler and didnt change much when i installed a freezer 7 pro

But when i changed mobos to a DS3 ( had a P5NSLI Asus before ) temps dropped to 35 degrees idle

He did say that

"idling at 41C in the bios"

so probe is irrelavant.

Mobo bios's give odd readings some times.

My E6600 was 15c hotter in the bios in the DS3 than in my P5 W DH.

In windows speed fan gave 1c difference

Probe is poo
Gigabyte monitor gave the same as speedfan.

P5B Deluxe has a reputation for giving out dodgy readings, so wouldnt worry much about probe/bios readings - just use TAT or coretemp, and bear in mind these read from the core so high 30's and low 40's at idle are not uncommon :) .

Thanks for all the replys. Seems the temp sensor may just be off as its running fine, and overclocked to 2.5ghz says under load its 65C but its running fine. Still not to sure if I want to keep it overclocked when Im not sure of actual temps but hey its running. I just cant see how it can be running this hot even when not overclocked, I was under the impression C2D's were able to run super cool. Ah well...
