C2D for video editing

My brother was about order some parts for he's new PC today which centered around C2D E6600 with the a DS3 mobo.

He will mainly be video editing & encoding + playback, no gaming at all.

Is this CPU over and above what he really needs the set-up in total will come in at around £600+ taking over from he's old AMD athlon he's been struggling with for 3 years.

Just trying to see if I can save him acouple of £ on parts he may not use to there full potential
 
You cant have enough processor power for video processing, its one of the most demanding tasks. So the more the better, C2D is certainly not 'Overkill' for that.

CPU, Plenty of ram, and a fast hard drive. But can probably save some penny's by speccing a low to mid range GPU. The majority of low/mid range cards handle 2D and video just fine.
