¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was wondering if the normal C2D's like the e5200 and e8400 will see a price drop anytime soon as all these new fancy i7 CPU's are now released?

Or will the price of the i7's have to drop first before we see any C2D drops??

Aren't we glad we grabbed one at the soft spot of the tech curve vs exchange rate :D

£285 <- I'm still amazed I bagged it :D

I don't think there will be any price drops just yet. It will be a while before most people upgrade to i7 (or deneb) and even longer before pre-built PCs use them. C2D is going to be the main platform for a good few months yet.

I agree, the prices are just artificially high due to the exchange rate and i7 motherboard prices are putting me off the switch at the moment.

Can't see there being much of a price drop until the mainstream i7 chips are out. And that'll be a few months yet.

Heh Intel and AMD will have to put their prices down after their uk sales being crippled by the exchange rate.

Hi there

It does not work like that, they will just slow production if they need too but its same as always people need CPU's, memory, hard drives etc. so demand does not change due to exchange rate fluctuations overall, its just demand in retail/etail sectors that can change which big manufacturers like Intel can just sit out.

It would be great for them to make some price cuts but Intel have nothing to very little planned, some new low power quad cores January/February next year but they are more expensive.

People want new components, not need, I'm not the only one who isn't buying because of the high prices, elasticity and all means they will make more profit by selling at a lower price.

You're in a serious minority though. Whilst enthusiasts will upgrade components, the vast vast majority of people won't and will buy when they need to. Most people buy a PC and use it until it packs up or literally can't cope with the software they want to run. At that point, whether they buy a whole new machine or get someone to repair/upgrade their current one, they "need" to buy hardware, regardless of the cost.

Yep, people have less cash and will make do with what they already have (which 9 times out of 10 is plenty anyway in reality), and if they do look to spend they are 'expecting' to see serious discounting.

Businesses and everyone else will hang on to what they have for longer with the prices being so high, the people whose computers break are also in a small minority, I don't think internet explorer or word is going to require a computer upgrade either.

well I love how ocuk have managed to put the prices up even after the VAT Drop!!!

Indeed love OcUK great after care but when other sites offer a i7 920 cheaper.Makes me think this crunch is hurting even the best of supplyers.

I don't agree on Gibbo's stance.

Last recession stores (any type but Furniture for pure example) had to have major sales or 2 for 1 offers like free 2 seater when 3 seater bought etc.

They either do that or go out of business as peeps wont spend in their store.

I even remember Ford gave a free basic model Fiesta with a "certain model" of Siera sold (no it was not a top model like Cosworth either).

Agreed:) I think prices will come down to suit, like millions of others I recently had to reapply for my job and then take a 10% pay cut in order to stay in work, its the same everywhere including Intel/AMD
