Hi

I have a 6400 @ 3.2G and it idles at 36/41-42 using CoreTemp 0.93 which I understands reads temps from the die. Is this high even at 36oC???

Is the CPU cooler (Scythe Mine) not seated properly or something??? - I did make sure that all four pins were pushed right down and secure!!!

Also, how is everyone applying AS5??? I put a pea size amount roughly in the centre of the CPU before mounting the cooler and kind of grinding it around to spread the paste as in the old Opty's method.

Is this right???

Thanks

the intel dual core specific instructions for AS5 suggest that you should put a line of AS5 across the two cores (when the computer is upright this is side to side. When the triangle is in the bottom left this is top to bottom).

Don't think it's unusual for the cores to read a few degrees different. Mine tend to be 2 degrees different most of the time.

edit: pea sized may or may not be a bit big. how big are your peas? are they petit pois?

With most water blocks and some sir coolers you can tighten down more on 1 side which can even the temps out. If you were to do some lapping you would prob solve the prob

Hello

Thanks for the replies, I have lapped the CPU and heatsink to mirror finish and the difference now is 4 degrees... Temps have dropped to (idle) 40/44 which is a great improvement - this is running @ 3360.06 (420.01 x 8) at 1.375v
