Hi all

I want to find out if this vehicle has a sealed for life/lubricated for life, transmission, so no need to change oil ever.

I can't get my head around how this would work, as oil over time would become contaminated, there would be fluid degradation, and loss of its vital properties (lubrication, cooling, power transfer)

I cant access any manual to give me a specific answer, taking my VIN number. No info on service manual.

Any info would be appreciated.

Its a MA type gearbox on it the same as my saxo think they are classed as sealed for life but you certainly can do a oil change on one if you want.

I did a gearbox oil change on the Mrs's Astra, while I was doing the clutch.

It's a FWD transverse engine with a 'maintenance free' gearbox.

It involved removing the diff cover plate to drain the gearbox because there was no drain plug.

There was also no fill plug, so I had to remove the reverse sensor and pour a measured amount through the whole.

Pretty straightforward and cost me the price of the gearbox oil and a diff plate gasket.

Nothing complex like that needed on a MA box they have a drain and a fill plug, the whole sealed for life is bs marketing crap to make vehicles more appealing to fleet buyers that want to save costs on maintenance, same reason oil changes when from 10k to 20k intervals. Oil degrades they just know by the time it causes a problem the vehicle will be long out of warranty.
