Cabinet Design help

I'm in the process of designing a piece of built in furniture which will house all the av bits and bobs...

I'm currently looking at how to have the Virgin tivo box hidden from sight but still controllable? is there a magic eye type thing that works with these?

I am also looking at how to ventilate the thing properly when it's closed up - I had the idea of maybe venting through the bottom of the cabinets and then connecting up a computer fan on the rear of the unit - but a bit concerned with noise - anyone done anything similar?
