Hey,

I'm planning to braid some cables from my computer, the problem i have is i don't know what sizes i need.

I know i need braid and then heatshrink.

But i don't know what cables what need size, and then what size heatshrink goes with what cables.

Any help on this?

Thank you.

Might be better posting in the General Hardware forum or one of the other hardware forums. I'm sure some of the people who have done them lovely case mods with the neat and tidy cabling would be able to give you some advice.

Also interested... Where's a good place to get the stuff from (if it's not a competitor, i guess most are!) would be good to see somewhere that offers a range of colours over black...

If you're doing singular cables like so:

3-4mm is good, if you're just doing the whole lot 10-12mm for the 24 pin and 6-8mm for the PCI-e etc. works ok. 10mm for S-ata cables.

I know the rules regarding competitors have been relaxed but I'm not sure by how much. I should be able to mention Murdermods and Million Dollar PC though. The one I just used might not be allowed.

like said better off in the general hardware section oh well mods/dons will only move it

I would also like to do this, seen only limit choices so far of the stuff and not from OCuk

you guessed it dons hint hint, we want braiding!

Depends on the ratio it shrinks to, I prefer 3:1 as you can get a larger size to begin with.

6-9mm 3:1 - 3-4mm braid
9-12mm 3:1 - 6-8mm braid
18mm 3:1 - 10 -12mm braid

Thank you, i've just purchased 1metre of 3mm braid and 1metre of 4.8mm 2:1 heatshrink

Going to start small, hopefully all goes well.

heatgun needed or would a hair dryer do, I m currently in the process of sourcing a heat gun through

I don't think a hairdryer would go hot enough, I just started doing a PSU today and the best thing I've found (other than a proper gun)... is the toaster :p

Enough heat comes off of it to shrink it but not melt anything else.

The braid (same quality as Million Dollar PC supply):

When you do eventually do it, label everything (masking tape is perfect for this).

Otherwise putting it all back together can be a right pain.

I prefer to do it like this, makes it easier to untangle them all. And there's the fact I was bored and the braiding hadn't arrived :p
