Cable Broadband Wifi Setup?

My friend has Virgin broadband cable internet & uses it with just a laptop through the standard supplied cable modem.
She wants to go wireless now. The laptop is wifi capable so am I right in thinking that all she needs to do is plug a wireless broadband router into the modem & set it up & she will be up & running?
