Hey all

Well i finally got the courage/finance to place my order for new system:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 4MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail

Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

XFX GTS 250 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Coolermaster Real Power 620w Modular Power Supply

Lian-Li PC-7B PLUS II Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black (No PSU)

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM

I have a hdd and optical drive. I know at the moment the power is ott but i'll be adding more optical drives and hdd down the read and wanted a bit of a "safety net" power wise also i won't be overclocking so for the time being the stock cpu fan should do. Also i have dual 17" monitors for now so hence "budget graphics".

Anyway assuming i haven't made a huge mistake and ordered totally incompatible parts i was wondering what to do about static when building.

People seem to have mixed feelings online so i was wondering what everyone here does?
I really don't want to have to buy a expensive wrist band, matt, etc for what will almost be a one off but i will if it's critical.

Also what about cable management. I would definetly like to attempt it (one of the reason why i chose a modular power supply) but what is the best starting point? Fit it then work the cables or just build it up slowly?

Thxs for any ideas - this will actually be my first build from scratch so i really don't want to mess it up :) Already read on here the motherboard has to be on the rises and not actually attached to the motherboard tray and the key 8pin cpu power otherwise it won't start.

p.s. i will satisfy the "pic or didn't happen" criteria in a couple of days fingers crossed when it's built ;)

you can get sticky pads that attach to the case that you can feed the cable ties through so they stay flat in the case, other option is to drill holes on the inside of the case to feed the cable tidies through.

i'd start by setting up the mobo, making sure all the risers match up, and i'd have a look where cables need to get to BEFORE screwing the mobo down

likes of the 4 pin power plug can sometimes be at the top of the case by the psu so you could re route that cable behind the motherboard tray.

just check on sata cables etc and figure out the best routes before screwing the mobo down and you should be fine.

Wrist bands are expensive now? Just touch a radiator before you being and dont drag your feet along the carpet, you'll be ok.

like mp mentioned the plastic sticky pads are pretty good OCuk used to sell them in a cable management kit but that was a while ago they might still do it.

Most modern cases take into account cable management and have lots of little hideaways. I find just cable ties are fine.
