cable management

Hey,

I'm currently finishing off the final touches to my new build. one of the things I'm going over is cable management. I've been able to get all my cables nicely tidied and concealed in my antec 1200 case. However the SATA cables are really annoying to get looking tidy, (partly because my SATA ports on my motherboard are in an awkward place)

does anyone know any good tips for cable management for SATA cables? or any special cables? I heart here are more flexible cables you can buy

Also a bit of a noob question maybe. Is there a difference between SATA 6Gbps and SATA 3Gbps cables?

Keep an eye out for my new build thread, should be up here by Tuesday, Will include pictures and benchmarks :)

SATA are a pain, so are SATA HDD power cables.

I found that grouping the SATA HDD cables to make one thick cable worked for me, and the power cable daisy chained for the HDD's

I'll find a pic

Best pic I can find, two SATA cables are missing at this point as I was testing but they were eventually grouped into one

I got some black rounded SATA cables with right angled connectors on them. You can get them in various lengths and makes it much easier to route the cables out of the way.

regardng the cables...SATA 6Gbps are theoretically going to be faster, thats if the drive you support can support those speeds and so can the motherboard

Regarding cable managment, just bundle them together but in layers...its hard to explain...

Sadly i cant find any pictures...but you basically bundle them do they are 'flat' on top of eachother, and not twisting etc

Why people dont do it mroe often i dont know

You can tidy up the looping effect from sata power cables by modding the cable.

You just leave the end one where it is and shift the others up the cable so the pitch between connectors matches the pitch between your hard drives. My connectors were Insulation Displacement types and just unclipped easily.

Not a very good image but you can see the power cables goes in a more or less straight line from bottom to top HDD.
