I bought the cablemod pro series cable kit and it arrived today. Im impressed with the quality of the cables but the connectors dont seem right. For the GPU PCI-e cables the 2 8 pin have 8 wires going into each plug that connect to the GPU. The end that goes into the PSU looks like this though...

To me that doesnt look right and Ive not seen it before? Am I missing something obvious here?

For context these cables are for the Asus ROG Thor PSU.

I could be wrong but I'd imagine it's like daisy chaining a smoke alarm from a light bulb socket.

In reality every input on that connector that goes to your PSU probably touches the exact same socket not 8 individual ones

Just never seen it before and dont quite understand why they wouldnt have 8 solid wires going form end to end as opposed to 6 in one end and split into 8 at the other.

I discovered an old reddit post

seems maybe it wont work

The most important comment seems to be
8 pins are 3 +12V and 5 grounds - the two empty ones there are grounds - so having only the 6 wires is safe. However, the bottom-left pin there is used to sense if the cable is plugged in. I assume it's wired to a different ground cable inside the plug; if it's not then it won't work.

The PCI-E cables are still 8-pin cables, it's just at the PSU end, two terminals have wires spliced together, so it appears to be 4, but this is due to the PSU pinouts. Fully normal. :)

so who knows...

It does seem kinda weird and might trigger peoples OCD there's probably a reason you wanted that cable and it's aesthetics?

Thats the reddit post I actually copied the pic from for ease of use and the only info I have been able to gather. That comment does say "if they have done that" and "I assume" but it should have been a straight forward answer from a Mod . Ive looked at pictures and reviews though and they all seem to be the same. You can even see it on the pictures on the OCUK site as well, and there is clearly 6 wires going into the plug. Waiting on a response from CableMod but given they sell a lot of them it must be fine?
