If i have a cable modem, can i put an ADSL router into the modem to route the internet to my 2 pcs? I say this as my modem would have already done the work so the router only has to route, or does it not work like this and i would need a cable router to work with my cable modem?

Cable modem - needs a cable router because a cable router has no modem built in.
adsl router has a built in modem so its just a router.

If that makes sence lol

If you can disable the DHCP on the router then yea it will probably be fine.

As sp00n said, but why not just buy a 4 port cable router?

There for it would be

Internet --> Cable Modem --> Cable router --> Computers

Instead of --> Cable modem --> Cable Router --> adsl Router > Computers

It won't work - the modem can only give out one IP (unless you pay extra for more), and you can't connect the modem to the router's WAN interface.

that only works with router to router

you could use an ADSL router as an impromptu switch if you turned off DHCP etc.. but it still requires a cable router to route traffic. Plugging an ADSL router into a cable modem would be the same as plugging a switch into it.
