will this eqpt be ok in the loft. my only issues are that it can get rather hot up there in the summer.

also should i house them in somthing to keep dust off etc?

any advice welcome :)

I keep a load of wires, a surge protected 4 way mains adapter, a cable modem running 4mb speeds, a wireless router, all crammed into a draw to hide it away out of site to kee desk clutter free. Been running like this for 2+ years no problems. The equipment however is nearer 4 years old. I wouldnt worry about heat. The reception in your house with wireless in loft will be fine also.

I have all my network hardware up in the loft and I haven't had any problems with it yet, its been up there since 2003 that includes a router, wireless access point, switch and cable modem, although it can get very hot up there it hasn’t had problems so far, last year I properly installed it into a network cabinet and a patch panel to keep it tidy rather than it just being dumped on a shelf.

thanks for the replies....

my telewsest cable enters my flat via the loft and i already have mains power up there.

on a seperate issue what would be a good wireless router to connect to my cable modem. I would need it to connect to up to an htpc and x360 plus 2 pc's.

would be used for on-line gaming and poss streaming HD

thanks

Im a netgear fan. I have a three year old wireless B standard only, netgear jobbie, just does wep. I should upgrade to WPA, but frankly I cant be bothered as nobody is ever likely to hack my network and wireless B for me is only ever going to be slow when my cable connection overtakes 11mbs, which is a while yet even on ntl 4mbs.
