I know the big difference between a cable router and an ADSL router is the ADSL router has a built in modem and the cable router relies on the cable companies router. But what are the other differences?
Could I use my old wireless ADSL router as a wireless router for my new cable connection for instance?
Is a cable router just a cut down ADSL router or does it have other cable specific features.

Any help appreciated?

As you say an ADSL router has an ADSL modem built in, so has an RJ11 WAN socket to connect to the phoneline.

A cable router connects to the supplied Cable modem and so has an RJ45 WAN socket.

Other than that there's not much difference

I suppose you could probably connect it to any LAN port, but you lose all port forwarding, firewall functions etc. It would just be a switch. However, i dunno whether that would actually work. Anyone tried this? Im curious.
