I'm switching to a monitor of 240hz so I can't use HDMI, are DP cables all the same or are different specs wired different in some way?

No they are not just Google the dp spec your equipment to see what you need.

Dp 1.2 will probably be fine, it's the most common for lower resolutions.

Depends on the resolution. It will need to be DP 1.4 for 240Hz at 1440p

Yeah that's why I said lower resolutions and recommended to check the spec.
