Cad/3D monitor quandry...

Currently use a Benq G2420HDBL with an LG 204wt dual setup on my work machine.
S'okay....1680x1050 with 1080p res KINDA works, but the biggest problem is if I move my head a couple of inches the colours totally change...TN panel, good for gaming and movies but not so much for getting work done.

So looking to get a "proper" 1920x1200 IPS panel 24" and run it with the Benq as secondary monitor.

Narrowed it down to 3:

HP ZR24W can get for £320
HP ZR2440W can get for £330
Dell U2410 can get for a similar price

Read up on all three, all pretty good.

I do Architectural modelling/3D animation, Adobe Suite, mostly After FX but a lot of photoshop for textures etc.
So colour correctness/image quality is the priority.

I believe both the Dell and the 2440w have a "standard" sRGB gamut and the ZR24W has an extended gamut.
This is pulling me towards that monitor, but I've read that the colours can seem over saturated in normal use...?

Could someone pass on their experience with this kind of thing and maybe make a recommendation from the three monitors I've listed.

Not looking for any other monitor suggestions thanks. :)

Hi there,

The Dell U2410 is also extended gamut (and has a "sRGB preset mode"), you may have been thinking of the cheaper Dell U2412M which is an LED backlit 1920x1200 24in monitor with a standard gamut (95.8% sRGB).

As for the colour gamut of the HPs you mention, the ZR24W is 97% sRGB and the ZR2440 is 95.8% sRGB.

Of these monitors, I would go with the U2410. It is a really nice bit of kit, uses a high quality 8 bit H-IPS panel (compared to the cheaper 6 bit+dithering E-IPS panels in these other 24in monitors) and it offers extended gamut (which sounds like it will be of use to you).

fantastic, thanks for the reply. :)

Was thinking of the Dell?
Earlier reviews/forum posts say it has some issues with colour "tinting" of the screen?
I believe this was in the earlier revisions though and Dell do firmware updates for this monitor.

The sRGB preset of the Dell...Review on TFT Central says its very good, a fair few forum posts by users say otherwise...not terrible but not perfect.

Nothing ever is and to be honest 100% colour accuracy is less important for me that sharpness, costrast and viewing angle (I mostly run Lightwave 3D, CAD and After Effects, but use Photoshop/Illustrator etc for texture creating and illustration.

The Dell 2410 looks great due to its better panel, its just the color tint problems and sRGB mode that put question marks on it.

Thanks

Decided I dont need the wide color gamut, so going for the Dell 2412.
Not much difference between that and the HP2440, use the same panel and has quite a price difference.
