CAD and gaming build!

This is for 1 of my mates who is looking for a new setup.

He has the OS, mouse and keyboard and monitor.

What he wants is 1 SSD for the OS and an i7 processor, decent graphics is also required. He has about £1500 to spend.

Whats the difference between the extreme 4 and the extreme 7 mobo?

is the gtx 580 better than the 2x 6870 in crossfire?

The Extreme7 has the NF200 chip, which allows two graphics cards to be run at x16/x16 speeds, whereas with the Extreme4 the cards would be run at x8/x8.

the cooler wouldn't play well with the ram the op has mentioned.

dan for blueray you'll want retail unless you have a licence for a program that runs bluerays. the ram you've chosen will restrict you on the coolers you can use, low profile such as the one that chigley suggested would be better. also the crucial m4 suggested by chigely appears to be the ssd currently of choice, fw update available which gives 500mb/s sequential read speeds(I believe that's the write one

IIRC, the Storm Scout had issues fitting in long GPU's.... I'd look at a different case if possible....

Would be my suggestion... You could use an H80 instead of an H100, but H100 is ~ on Par with high end CPU coolers such as D14/Silver Arrow (depending on testers)

over the extreme 7 and the 6970 in crossfire? £505.97

save £20 and have a better mobo and graphics,

Depends if your CAD supports mainstream GPUs. Else you'll have to go professional cards, which are very expensive and not very powerful. Plus, they bug in games.
