Just a small rant.

Up until last year I had a loan for ~£4000 with Cahoot.

I decided to pay it off in January 2007. I got my settlement figure (say £4100, for simplicity sake), and used their online service to pay this via direct debit. 10 days later the money still didn't show in my cahoot loan account (it had been taken from my bank account instantly). I phoned them, they advised the money was "lost" in one of their clearing accounts, and I should do a direct debit indemnity claim via my bank to reclaim the money.

I did a direct debit indemnity claim, got the money back instantly (the bank phoned Cahoot to confirm this before they did it). I then immediately phoned Cahoot, got a new settlement figure, and paid this using the online "bill payment" facility of my bank (HBOS, although I'm not with them any more).

All goes well - I phone them to confirm the loan is cleared and they send me a letter confirming this (I had to clear the loan as a condition of getting my mortgage, so needed written proof).

3 days ago I get an email from them saying "We need to get in touch with you, our letters have been returned undelivered" (obviously, as I'd moved house).

They now claim that I did a direct debit indemnity (of course I did, they told me to), and that I owe them £4100. I have the bank statement from the period in question showing the initial payment, the re-claim of the money, and then the final payment to clear the loan (although I don't have the exact details of the account number & sort code that I paid the money into).

I HATE CAHOOT. 18 months down the line they start hassling me with this - I'm at my wits end.

I've got a point of contact there, so I don't have to re-explain everything. However it does concern me that this has sprung up out of nowhere after 18 months. I'm half inclined to ignore their phonecalls (I wouldn't actually do this, for fear of getting some kind of debt against my name, but I feel like it)

When did you move house?

4th March 2007. However I know who owns the house and he kept all my mail for me and I picked it up every month. That happened up until about 4 months ago when he sold the house (he would text me if any mail ever came through).

I don't have anything constructive to add other than that this is my worry of having an internet account that you can't go in and rant to their faces about! ;)

Cahoot is part of Abbey (which I guess explains a lot!) so technically you could go in to one of Abbey's branches, but I think they try and keep the two separate.
