Cake for the niece!

well never done anything with fondant, and my mrs has always done cupcakes. so today i started on my nieces cake.

heres how it went :)

as u can see the bear needs some work, but not bad for a very 1st attempt lol :D
 
Very good! Did you use a smoother? They really help.

The mrs makes cakes as a hobby. This is one she did for a friend.

yea used a smoother, ure mrs is 1 talented lady ! very nice work. only prob with doing the 1 i did, now all my damn family want em lol
 
Thats so true! She's not doing any for a while. Birthday cakes especially as people aren't willing to pay much and some take soooo long!
 
After being dragged around 'party shops' recently, I was amazed with the cost that some cakes cost. However, some of them are truly a work of art. It's a shame that there are an awful lot of 'cake artists' who aren't very good but still charge a lot.

I did a delivery to someone the other day (I'm a ASDA home shopping driver) and they had ordered over £200 of cake making ingredients! I imagine for some it is very profitable.
