Hey all,

I am trying to figure out the newest AMD chip price.

1. According to Wikipedia the chip is 28 x 28, so I took this information into this die per wafer calculator and found out there are 67 dies per wafer (link: https://anysilicon.com/die-per-wafer-formula-free-calculators/)

2. The price per wafer (4NP) is ~15K according to this page: https://anysilicon.com/wafer-cost/

3. For now, I will assume the yield is 50%

4. The price per die is ~$450

Is this correct?

Thanks for your answers.

says upto 20k for n3

Meanwhile, the average price of TSMC’s processed 12-inch wafers in the fourth quarter of 2023 reached USD 6,611 per unit, surpassing the USD 5,384 per unit in the fourth quarter of 2022. This is attributed to the increased shipment volume of wafers at the N3 process to customers, including Apple.

The report further cites sources indicating that TSMC may charge up to USD 20,000 per wafer manufactured using its N3 process. Although this figure may not be entirely accurate as TSMC’s pricing depends on various factors

I saw something that said prices are rising by 10% next year

AMD (Zen4) chips have 2+ dies, IO die + CCD's. They also use different nodes, IO die (6nm 124.7 mm²). The CCD is (5nm) 70 mm2 in size, so a lot more than 67 per wafer.
Zen 5 also use IO die + CCD's, think the IO die is the same but the CCD's are different but about the same size on 4nm(think).

Assuming a wafer is 20k although I don’t believe AMD will paying that much, then for the CCD it would cost AMD around $23, it would probably be less than half that for the IOD on 6nm so I’d say around $30 for a single CCD chip and $50 for a dual CCD model.

Thanks for your answers.

The chips are 70mm, about 7 X 10, 9600X and 9700X have one of those while the 9900X and 9950X have two. The logic dies are $16.70 each.

They all have an IO die at 124mm, but those are on 6nm, they probably cost about $10 a pop.

The schematic diagram doesn't fall from the sky. The design costs hundreds of millions in R&D and needs to be factored into the cost.

Then there's TSMC's profit margin.
