calculating monthly upload and download useage

what's the best way for me to check how much gig I'm uploading downloading monthly?

For a local computer, use DuMeter, or for total network usage, employ a router that supports DD-WRT.

have a look for an application called networx, shows daily/monthly and a few other things, works pc side rather than router etc, so wont be that useful if you want to monitor 2/3 pcs unless you load it on all of them then count it up at the end of the month.

This. You can set it to sync with networx installed on other pcs on the same network. So you can view how much bandwidth each pc has used from a single computer.

You'll also need to tick a box so it doesn't include data copied between local computers aswell.

Some routers will give some indication of how much you've transferred too.

Have a look at your ISP website, Pretty much all of them will show you your usage when you log into your account page.

best prog I have used to do this is networx you can config the prog to collect stats from all pcs conntected to the network with the prog installed on. This will not collect stats for things like Xbox etc though.
