Is there a Calendar for Windows XP so I can set alerts for certain dates?

I noticed one when I was using Vista, but it kept crashing and now I am back on XP I can't seem to find one.

I spoke too soon. :(

I just tested the alarms, and it seems that the program needs to be fully open for the alarms/alerts to work!!! It is not possible to minimize it to system tray either...

It's a huge shame, because it looks like an awsome program but pretty useless really.

Anyway, any other recommendations of Calendars that have alarms, which work without having to have the program open on you're screen 24/7?

The MinimizeToTray extension does what you're after - obviously it has to be running for you to get alarms, but that's common to any app.

Thanks for that. I installed minimizetotray for Firefox and it works perfectly, but how do I install it for Sunbird and Thunderbird? I click on "Install now (Windows)" and it installs, but asks to restart Firefox (even though I chose the Sunbird one).
How do I install that add-on to Sunbird and Thunderbird:confused:

I will take a look at Rainlendar now, thanks Marc.

For Thunderbird (and Sunbird I presume) you need to load Thunderbird. Then go to Tools>Addons. Click on the Install button and navigate to the folder with the MinimizeToTray .xpi file and er select it like.

And I think you will quite like Rainlendar. You can input dates and even times on the dates and get little windows popping up ahead of time to remind you. I think you can even select how much notice you want Rainlendar to give you of an appointment/date etc.

The extension is identical for Sb/Tb/Fx - as MarcLister says, you need to actually install it in the app.
That said, Sunbird needs a lot of polish.

Thanks. It turns out that MinimizeToTray is not compatible with the new version of Sunbird (which I am using), and it only works with a really old version of 0.2...
I give up!

Time to give Rainlendar a try.

Actually, it works fine in 0.7. You just need to change the MaxVersion (or do tools -> options -> config editor and add extension.checkCompatibility, set to false).
Some folks have reported issues, but it works for me. As ever, YMMV.

Too late now, I have uninstalled it. :o

I just installed Rainlendar, went to launch it and it has an error saying;

Rainlendar2.exe - Unable To Locate Component
This application has failed to start because MSVP71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRHHHH!!!

I have a headache now, so I'm off to bed. I will try reinstalling it tomorrow to see if it fixes.

Thanks for the help guys.

Have you tried google calendar? I suppose you may want the added power that comes with a desktop app, or to keep all you data on your own machine, but I couldn't live without the SMS alerts, and you don't need to install or run anything. :)
