Calendar program (Not web based)

Personally, I am finding the web based offerings rather pants.

Anything I can install onto the computer which will give notifications about upcoming events etc?

Only things I can think of are Lightning add-on for Thunderbird. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/lightning/

If you're on Windows 10, have you tried the built in Calendar app? Although granted it's quite basic.

Gmail calendar is great, I use it for lots of things and it auto picks up emails and adds them if it's needed.

Thunderbird/Outlook have calendar's built in.

would love to know this too. i want a pretty simple to use but feature rich calendar. i use google calendar, online it looks dull and dated, but an offline app just for calendar that looks nice would be great.
