Calibrate laptop monitor

Hi all.

I do most of my post processing on my laptop. But when I view images on other screens they turn out much darker. This usually results in all of my images appearing too dark.

Is there any free software that calibrates a monitor correctly?

I also have this problem and found the best solution was to edit my image on my desktop machine. The backlight on laptop LCD screens is too strong to properly edit photos.

Software calibration can help to some extent, but to calibrate it accurately and reliably you need calibration hardware. What graphics card do you use? As often the GPU manufacturer will include some sort of calibration software in with the bundle.

I should have mentioned.
Even with hardware calibration my experience was that images were too dark.

Yeah, laptop screens really arn't the best to edit on as you say. Might be worth getting a cheapish external LCD to hook the laptop up to.

its often embedded in the driver software
but yes hardware is probably a more reliable way to calibrate it

Fair enough, I'll make sure I edit photos on my desktop from now on.
