Can you guys tell me if there is a professional method for calibrating devices to off-set lip synch.
Although my AVR is pre HDMI, I intend buying a Felston audio lag device to combat my annoying LS problem which has only manifested itself since buying a Samsung LCD TV. Unfortunately I have VM and not SKY and cannot deal with that within the STB. I therefor suffer with it on all inputs ie. DVD, Cable and will probably have the same problem when I buy a streamer. At the moment I have calibrated the TV to 150mS on the optical out when playing streamed MKV files, but that may be out a bit.
What I would like it some medium that I can use to set it up professionally. If a DVD existed I could use that for both DVD player and streamer (as the filoes are ripped DVD's). I could use the BBC HD test loop if only I could be around when it is broadcast.
So, does anyone have any ideas on medium to use and can you also tell me the frequency of the BBC HD test. Thanks.

there are many blu ray players that adjust lip sync issues. i use a bdp 320 which enables me to adjust lip sync, but no streaming. but as i said many other makes do that and probably a bit newer also. you can adjust the lip sync up to various degrees but nothing like a 10sec lag AFAIK ;)

I heard/read LG did some nice streaming blu ray players, not sure if you can or cannot adjust lip sync on them

how much lip sync are you getting?

sry can't be more help, but it may be worth checking AVforums blu ray section if you want some suggestions of current players that can do lip sync and stream

my 2 cents and good luck

ps don't know of any dvd that do that, you could always pay someone like ISF calibrator, i suppose they could do it for you - although gonna cost a lot more than a DVD, but if it's pro you want. but it should be easy enough to adjust yourself, just pick a scene with a close up of dialogue, if it's close enough then you won't notice anymore even if it's 1 ms off ;)

Unfortunately my AVR is pre HDMI and has not got the inbuilt audio lag feature. I therefor has 2 options a) buy a new amp or, b) buy a Felton audio lag device.
I have only just experienced this problem since aquiring a Samsung LCD TV. The audio lag from DVD pl;ayer is not too bad, the VM+HD STB can be chronic especially SKY sports HD. Today I connected an optical cable from TV to AVR to use the media player function of TV to play streamed MKV DVD rips. Using the TV's own internal tuner for DD output allows you to set up audio delay and I had to set it at 150mS. Although I may be out a bit it can be that bad.
SKY STB have audio feature but VM doesn't. Therefor when I buy a media streamer, I will have 3 devices to have to calibrate. The Felston is £200 but may be a good option as it has 4 inputs and on the fly calibration via RC. Which may come in handy especially when VM is inconsistant with lip synch values.
Sorry to waffle, I would like a fool proof method of calibrating - not just watching lips. I'm 60, my senses might be going and that 150ms may be way off. The missus will say it's the opposite.

maybe amp is pre hdmi, but you can still plug blu ray video to TV direct via hdmi? and audio via optical (or other) to amp?

if you want pro calibration, then contact ISF engineer (they usually do more video calibration but i should think they should be able to help - at least worth asking them), but that will cost a couple of hundred pounds http://www.avforums.com/forums/isf-calibration/
