Hi,

I recently calibrated my monitor using a spyder..

Everything worked fine APART from now when I open photoshop I receive an error (see below) and the color white appears yellow instead of white..

ERROR IN PHOTOSHOP

Please help me fix this, thank you

p.s. dont worry about the poor screen capture quality...

The message you are getting relates to the colour space you are working in. You are working in the wider gamut of Adobe 1998 but importing an image which has the smaller gamut of sRGB embedded into it. The embedded profile contains the colour information for the image which helps the device that is accessing it to know how to display the colours.

In Photoshop, head to the Edit menu and then Colour Settings.

Change the RGB value to Monitor RGB and hit OK.

You'll now be working in sRGB and Photoshop will use the profile that the Spyder created to ensure it is displaying colours correctly and the image you are trying to open shouldn't flag up as having a profile mis-match. White should now be white again.

PS. If you don't have Monitor RGB then you should have something similar which will relate to the ICC profile that the Spyder device created during the calibration process. I don't have a Spyder so I'm just going with my best guess.

thanks I have monitor RGB so does that mean its using the correct colors from when I calibrated my screen?

thanks so much for your help

Actually, hold that thought. Ignore what I said above and select sRGB from the drop-down.

If necessary you can proof your images (View > Proof Setup > Custom) with your monitor profile but for the time being stick with sRGB as your working space.

Sorry, xirokx, I'm confusing you now. I'll clarify.

In Photoshop, head to the Edit menu and then Colour Settings.

Change the RGB value to sRGB IECXXXX-X.X and hit OK.

I didn't think my original response through before replying - don't choose your monitor as your working colour space as it will severely hamper your efforts.

its on any file...

so when I open up photoshop the black is black but the white is yellow, its not on 1 file its something to do with the color settings..

It sounds like we've got a muddle with Photoshop, working spaces and assigned profiles.

I'm assuming that now your working space is sRGB IECXXXX-X.X that you're no longer getting the error message?

Can you take a screenshot of your Color Settings window?

Does it look anything like this?

screenie

thanks for your help really appreciate it :)

just frustating how my monitor is calibrated but my PS settings are wrong...

I've got a feeling your monitor profile that the Spyder created is knackered. That would explain why Photoshop is having a bit of a strop.

Can you un-assign it?

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Colour Management > Select profile and click Remove.

Reboot your PC and check that it's not been re-assigned. Then change your Color Settings to match what's shown in my reply above.

if i remove the profile, do I need to recalibrate my screen?

just learning this so really appreciate your help :)

When you remove the profile it should stay in your system (they are stored in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color) but no longer be associated with the screen. You can re-apply the profile and Windows will still 'see' it as usable.

What's bothering me is that with the profile active (as long as it is associated with the screen) Photoshop is using it as a reference point (which is automatic, even if you're not selecting it as the colour space) and your colours are going a bit screwy. Just wondering if the profile is the root cause.

And it's a pleasure to try and help - just hope we get this sorted for you!

hi

im using vista ultimate, please see color management settings below:-

it appears as if the samsung profile is there but is not being used as the "use my settings for this device" is not selected...also find a list of options available on the different tabs..

device tab

all profiles tab

advanced tab

so do you think I should set windows to use the profile that is currently there?

Or do you think a recalibration is required?

When I initally calibrated surely the profile should not be samsung ICC profile, should it not be called something else more relative to my spyder?

Since calibrating a few months ago I have noticed the color display has improved a lot its just PS which is causing the problem, which confuses me a lot about my next step?

thanks

I just removed the profile, rebooted the pc and then set my PS settings as you showed above..

White is still showing as yellow...

I did notice after rebooting pc when I went into PS the profile was samsung monitor profile and it was set to RGB instead of sRGB which showed white as white..

Also now my screen is much brighter which must be removing the profile obvisiously deleted the calibration settings etc...

Think Im gonna need to recalibrate, will wait to see what you think before I do though..

Oh God, not Vista. Now I'm utterly confused.

I can't really compare my experiences with XP to that of Vista, but I find it strange that your default monitor profile appears to be that which came with the Samsung. Both the calibration suites I've used (admittedly the more professional ones, but that shouldn't matter) create their own custom profile and that's what is applied to the monitor.

As an example:

profilesvd0.jpg

The 2407WFP profile is the one shipped with the monitor (and the one I asked for in the thread you replied in) and the 12.05.08-6500K-12-120cd is the one created by the LaCie Blue Eye Pro software.

I would have assumed that the Spyder would create it's own profile and then set that as your monitor's default. It's possible that has happened but I can't see why it would be so close to looking like a 'standard' monitor profile.

At a rough guess, and I'm sorry it has to be a guess, I'd say that either the profile that the Spyder has created is not associated correctly with your PC (see here for some info on that) or there was a problem during calibration. I'd start again if I were you.

hey thanks for the link...

the link confirms what I did initally was correct and I can see the profile I created yesterday after recalibrating...as I added it...

the PS problem still persists though despite the fact I used your settings so I can only think they are not correct for my monitor, which annoys me because despite my monitor being calibrated and me seeing confirmation of this, I cannot understand why white is showing as yellow...grrr

thanks
