I calibrate my display by using lagom.nl and the nvidia settings, however, I notice, I need to apply these settings after every startup for them to take effect and even then, it seems games seem to totally ignore these settings and mabye mess with them when I return to my desktop after closing the game.

wtf is the problem?

Your first mistake is trying to alter things on the GPU-level presumably for gaming purposes. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18224685&highlight=icc

Adjust the monitor OSD settings using Lagom and familiar desktop backgrounds and photos as a guide. If you are tweaking things like 'Digital Vibrance' and trying to make the image appear more to your taste (rather than concerned with accuracy) then this would be a driver issue on Nvidia's side. If you are using the U2711H as my research suggests (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18217132&highlight=username_Cythx) then you shouldn't really need to do any GPU-level tweaks for gaming and should focus purely on optimising via the OSD.

The U2711H is generally close enough to the target gamma of 2.2 from factory (certainly close enough for entertainment purposes - generally a little lower which is preferable for gaming). If you wish to alter this most games have individual controls to do so. You could also try using the Windows 7 calibration tool to tweak the gamma by setting an ICC profile. As aforementioned games will ignore or misinterpret this but you should still be able to alter the gamma in this way - unfortunately different games will handle it differently which is why it is best to set it in-game if you can.
