I need a caliper winding tool to replace the discs/pads on my mondeo.

Does anyone where sells them?
Halfords don't sell them anymore.

thanks

I just use a normal G-Clamp.

Make sure that the end is not sharp so the caliper isn't damaged.

Chris

They need to be wound back in rather than just pushed back in though IIRC.

I've used G-clamps on others that you can just simply push back.

same here, i wouldn't buy a tool for them, just a medium sized G-Clamp.

Yeah, seconded (or thirded now!)

Just use a G Clamp, one thats reversible as a spreader is even better!

how do you do it with just a g-clamp then?

Surely it needs to be turned at the same time as pushed back in?

Use of of the squeeze G clamps! The brace part on the caliper and moving part on the piston.

Also, a little tip, just unscrew the brake resevior cap (before you wind the piston back in) a turn or two to let air out (DO NOT REMOVE IT). This will eliminate the need for you to bleed the brakes

You cant wind back a rear caliper with a g-clamp as it has to be screwed back due to the handbrake. I have something similar to this, its worth getting one with different size heads in the box unless your only ever going to use it on the mondeo.

thank you.
I guess it would make sense to buy one with different size heads.

You dont need that either, just release the handbrake cable!!

What.

You cant push caliper pistons in on pistons with handbrake mechanisms, they need to be wound in properly!

Majority of Mondeo's do not have rear brake discs so I was just guessing his has drums on the back.

On the 309 GTi you could stick a screw driver in the slots in the piston and then use that to turn it. By putting it in the slots I mean the actual shaft of the crew driver so it's parrallel to where the brake disk would be.

Not on systems where the handbrake operates shoes that sit on the inside rim of the disc and are independant of the caliper system (i.e. most BMWs, Vaux, to name a few)

I used a set of molegrips on mine, took bloody ages, buy the tool save yourself some grief and also get the job done in half the time, most pliers are either too big or too small for the slots in the piston on the mondy.
