So I got a call today from a very nice bloke from a company called virtual network (or something like that he had an accent so may have misheard him). Basically trying to get me to renew my phone contract.

Kinda sceptical as
a. he got my name completely wrong and was pretty baffled when I told him i'd never heard of who he was asking for,
b. he didnt seem sure of the contract I was on,
c. tried desperately to keep me on orange and repeatedly told me I didn't need unlimited internet (maybe this is just a sales man thing? I dunno, buy everything online nowadays to avoid the buggers! :p)
d. they called out of the blue and i'm very wary of giving details to people who ask for them.

So is this a valid call or a scam? TIA

TLDR: got a phone call from company ive never heard of before (virtual network), not sure if a scam, to the internetz!

p.s. he tried to offer me a galaxy ace for £40 a month

Edit: a quick google says the company is mobile services uk!? My hearings not that bad lol

Could be legitimate, but that doesnt mean I'd be comfortable giving them any details. If I want a service, I call THEM and that way I know I'm speaking to the right people.

Never give out sensative info when your cold called. You're just begging to get burned if you do.

It'll be one of Oranges indirect sales channels, there are plenty of companies out there that do this for the larger networks to try and mitigate the amount of churn the larger company will go through each year, said company will make their money through the commision of the contract, in the same manner that a fella at phones-4-u would do.

The difference being as already said, their deals won't be that great. People like my poor grandfather will be those who they manage to secure deals with.

Annoying sods, aren't they!

Ah thanks for clearing it up. I'd be interested if the deals were any good, but what they've offered me so far handset wise is pretty crap tbh.
