Holding off for now as unsure if it is really worth a buy even @ £19.99 as it uses a custom 4 year old game engine & the developers all got fired so the aftersales support is gonna be poor. Ubisoft are releasing so may also have the dreaded Starforce protection.

Anyone brave enough to buy it yet if so what is it like?

I've had it on XBox for a fair while and its fantastic. My PC version should be showing up tomorrow. Think i got it for £17.99. It should look pretty good at higher resolution.

Looks interesting, may get it later as a break from Oblivion. How long has it been out on the Xbox and most importantly - is it scary.

Got this for PC and so far it's been brilliant. It's also quite a change from other games as there's quite a lot of stealth involved and you don't have anything to defend yourself with. The sanity system is quite good too and its price tag (a well known online retailer does this for £15 delievered) is even better. Graphically it is quite old but this game isn't about that at all.

From what I gather its using the Unreal Engine 3 ??

http://www.unrealtechnology.com/html/technology/ue30.shtml

Unreal Engine 3 is a complete game development framework for next-generation consoles and DirectX9-equipped PC's, providing the vast array of core technologies, content creation tools, and support infrastructure required by top game developers.

Doesnt look that old to me. ;)

Installed it this morning as well. It runs flawlessly at 1680 x 1050 and 6x AA. I actually think it doesnt look half bad, obviously not cutting edge but since its an XBox port thats not suprising. What it does do is capture the atmosphere of Lovecrafts stories brilliantly well. You do get guns later on, but in all things Cthulhu guns arent really the answer to anything as the horror is much bigger and much more extensive and best you can do is hope to play your tiny part in fighting it. The insanity effects are brilliant as well, a bit like Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube.

I've mentioned this a few times before, but the "Escape" sequence is one of the most stressful, harrowing and scary sections of any game i've played. You've all got that to look forward to :)

as always when people mention that section yes, harrowing, I actually had nightmares about it :D

My brother bought it yesterday been playing it eversince!

Quite good especially considering the price. Also comes on only 2 CDs and has no Starforce protection either (1st in a longtime for Ubisoft). You do not even need the CD in the drive when playing so that is another bonus.

Looks good on my Dell2405 @ 1920x1200 with max AA. Cannot believe this has been in development since 2001 as if it was released even 3 years ago would have had very high end gfx with all the different water+fire+insanity shader effects.

Game is quite good for a console port. Absolute steal @ £14.99.
