I purchased Call of Duty 4 last night and let it download through the night, I then installed it this morning, updated punkbuster and thought I was ready to go. I launched the multiplayer and clicked join server. No servers were shown so I clicked Refresh List. Still no servers are shown, it waits for a response from master server and then says refresh time: 5th July 16:56 but still no servers are showing.

Is this a common problem? It is driving me nuts and is it to do with port forwarding as I cannot seem to be able to do this.

make sure you have filters set to default

refresh and wait shouldnt take more than a minute to show all servers

server list is fine been on it today . make sure you havent got something blocking it like a peer guardian or peer blocker or firewall

Have you updated to the latest version?

You have to do them all individually as well I think, it's a nightmare lol.

I got it from Steam last night and I thought Steam updated it for you? I am on 1.7.568 at the moment.

I have tried messing with the filters a lot and when they are on default and still get nothing.

I have Norton Antivirus (I know :() but I basically turned off all firewall, web protection. Basically any security and it still won't work. I have waited quite a while and no servers have appeared

Try right clicking on the game in your steam library. Click on properties. Click on local files and then choose verify integrity of game files after this has finished choose defragment cache files.

Did both of these things. Unfortunately still no change :(

Ok an update, if I go to the console and attempt to connect to an IP (I found some server IPs off google to test) I get in a game and can even run around a little but every time after about 10 second I get this message:
cod4m.png

I resized it so if you can't read it, it says:

David Punkbuster kicked your play "David" (for 0 minutes)
...RESTRICTION Disallowed Program/Driver [125120]

For those who haven't guessed, I am David

This means nothing to me. I will give an internet cookie to whoever knows how to fix this.

ANOTHER update, OK fixed this error by disabling the steam community ingame overlay thing.
Servers still aren't being listed but right now I'm trying to make the game work from IP addresses. Now when I play I can go play for about 20 seconds before it says IW3mp.exe or whatever it's called (I don't remember exactly) has stopped working and the program closes.

Try...

Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound > Recording tab > Right click; Show disabled devices > Enable Stereo mix.

Try...

Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound > Recording tab > Right click; Show disabled devices > Enable Stereo mix.

I did this and Stereo mic was already enabled, anyway not holding much hope I went on CoD4, joined a server and it worked. I am pretty sure I didn't change any settings but somehow it at least fixed the playing part of the problem,

Thanks!

Still remains that there is no server list. Typing in IPs isn't so bad though I suppose.

I had this. Even though the auto-setup that triggers from Steam says that PB is setup, I had to go on the PB site (or somewhere?) and manually DL and install the cod4 PB profile.
