Called by a tape recorder over and over.

This evening we have started receiving calls, roughly every 10 minutes.
It connects to a tape recording which commences,
'This is a free message,
to hear it press 1,
to delete it press 9,
you will not be charged for this call.'

At this stage i have been hanging up.
The number is withheld, we are ex-directory, and indeed are subscribed to TPS.

If I press a 1 or a 9, is there a possibility it forwards a call to a premium number and ends up charging me?
It there a method of stopping them from calling?

bloody annoying....We subscribed to TPS and the annoying calls stopped....i don't have the solution for you but i hope someone has a way of complaining about these.

I would risk it by pressing 9...

It might be a recorded voice message someone has sent you.

Yes, common ploy by telephone scammers... often will connect to a premium international number and you will be charged.

Just hang up - don't press any key!

I think it's from your telephone provider. I had one of those once and it turned out someone had sent a text message to my landline instead of my mobile. It's just a text voicemail so to speak.

If you are with BT phone 0845 602 1111 (works with sky as well who im with) from the landline and it will tell you if you have any texts waiting. Safer to do that incase it does turn out to be a scam.
