calling all LOTRO players

Does anyone know of anywhere that I could check the population of the various servers? I'm on Gilrain at the sec with lvl49 captain but struggling to get fellowships together. I dont mind moving to Snowbourne becaus eI am not kinned at the moment but I dont want to pay if in reality they are about the same.

Cheers

silly question probably just ordered the game (could not get gold version) description does not say how much free play i get. WOW was a month but didnt like that.

Turbine will not release server population figures, something they have refused since day one. Theres no doubting many players have put their char's on hold due to end game content however once the new area's are opened up i know lots who are coming back. Your welcome to try us out if you swap servers as we've recently merged with another like minded bunch so theres always peeps online.

usually you get a month free then a subscription to carry on playing. If you joined the founders club before release you can get 3mths game time for just over £15 which is good value, its about £8 for norm subs etc although im not 100%sure

I've only dabbled in LOTRO, but I take it there's not a lot to do once you hit 50? From the threads I've read on this forum, most people who play seem to have several alts, which might suggest there's nothing to occupy you once you hit the cap?

When you reach cap are there smaller instances to do or are there just larger scale raids?

Also what is the required number ot make a raid is it 20 man, 40 man or are there different size raids?

to be honest although a lot of lvl 50's say there isn't much to do, i doubt any of them have completed every quest, every instance or completed all the traits etc.

the instances differ in size ranging from small 6-12man groups up to the max 24 players. the new 'Rift' is a medium 12 man group which has the 7day (iirc) lock allowing you to comeback and continue where you left off.

most players often have a few 'alts' for extra storage space and crafting enabling themselves to self sufficient , plus its good fun to try the game out using a different class to your main, but i guess this is no different from other MMo's ...

I reckon they're being a bit slow in releasing content. Most of our kinship consists of parked max level characters now. Admittedly they've brought out the new misty zones since we all got bored senseless of angmar, but goblin town and the rift are just about all you can do besides angmar stuff.

Funny thing is, there's a lot of content along the way to 50, and you tend to out level a lot of stuff without seeing it all. Still, with your first alt you make sure you cover that stuff, and then that's pretty much it.

I expected to be able to get to Mirkwood and Rohan at this stage. Get the finger out, Codemasters

Don't you fight a Balrog as final boss in that raid?

Sorry about long time replying, yes last boss is the balrog.

regarding end game content there is a fair bit to do but its easy to let yourself get bored, i used to be quite bored with the end game. i then changed kinship and have started to do the regular raids etc and get the epic armour pieces which has perked up my interest.

i hit 50 with my hunter yesterday so will be testing the heart seeker on poor creeps tonight in the ettens :)

this is the first mmo i have played so i dont know what otheres are like but i have friends who have played others who have said they arent doing badly regarding bringing out the new content and really as far as mmo's go LOTRO is still in its infancy.

anyway if anyone wants to have a chat in game drop me a line

Does anyone know the process of upgrading my trial version?

Do i have to start all over again or just buy a new sub? I thought about buying the retail version for the months free play but since the £15 for 3 months deal finishes next week then i think it would be better to take advantage of that while i still can?

Right,

i dont know for certain but my guess would be.

if you start a new subscription then you will continue withe your current character.

if you buy a retail and get the 30 days free (45 in the gold edition i beleive)

then you would have a new cd key and have to start from scratch.

personally i think the money you would save from the reduced price would be more benefitical than the 30 days free

in my opinion of course :)

Just noticed this thread. you just need to log into your cog account and start a subscription

Theres also a £3.99 lotro pack you can buy online (cant remeber where) which has a founders key in it and ,you can enter the key and never pay any subs again . but it will cost you £99 to use the key in your cog account.

I upgraded my account cos i played eq2 for 3 years so thought ill prolly end up doing the same on lotro

got a 50 champion (Colzie) and a 31 captain so far (colzee) :) on snowbourne server

I have, until recently been playing LOTRO but have lost interest in it now and probably wont return. Call it old mans syndrome and new found interest in my 360 if you like.

However, when trawling through my emails the other day I found my founder member email whith the founder member lifetime subscription key in it which remains un used due to me getting free life time membership from another source.

So, if anyone wants it, drop me an email and I will see if I can sort you out. If I get a number of responses, I might make it a little competition.

I was playing this back in the beta, as my first mmorpg, and i loved it, i just ended up forgetting about it eventually.

Got a trial again so ill come on snowbourne and add a few of you.

whats the united kingdoms kin like in lotro. I used be in it. Cant remeber what mmo it was though, long time ago now :)

i am of course slightly biast but personally its the best kinship i have been involved with.

by best i mean helpful and fun memebers but also very organised when it comes to raids and events

ive basically retired from PvE on Snowbourn, and after bk 12 i dont bother with any of my creeps on that server due to the excessive grams camping and pathetic freeps that dont understand what MPvP actually is. Moved to Laurelin and created a few new creeps and haven't looked back , immense organised fun with insane battles that will hopefully tide me over until they release the much needed expansion pack.

and Loki remember your kin was the 2nd best behind the older 'Unseen Servants' kinship ;p

Laurelin is the RP server isn't it? Is the community really that much different from the normal servers?

well iv'e heard the PvE is more serious but during our time getting to level 10 we didn't notice much 'seriousness' in the main chat... it only takes an 1hr or two to get to the required level . Regarding the MpvP theres nothing different apart from a more enjoyable gaming community, theres actually good battles and none of the childish camping that happened on the dreadful Snowbourn Moors. Haven't looked back at PvE since so it must be doing something right!

Right.

Despite my post above saying I probably wouldn't return to LOTRO, guess what happened over the weekend.....My wife gave me a gift of a brand spanking new set of Logitech Z-10 speakers and with these sitting nicely on my desk playing LOTRO again seemed very refreshing and I activated my founder member subscription and have not been happier. (Those that asked about the sub after my initial post, it would appear that the offer was restricted to me only, hence why it wouldn't work for the lucky receiver).

So, now I am back after a long absence (my main character level 32 and have been playing since day 0 so can guess the lengthly absence) I have found the majority of my friends of Evernight have gone.

So, is it possible to change servers without losing your characters, as wouldn't mind joining you guys on Snowbourne, or is it a case of doing a full reroll and losing all the hard work?
